Educators angered over scrapping of COVID-19 mitigation measures in schools
Last Friday, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released new guidelines on reopening K-12 schools, encouraging the reckless repudiation of all safety measures. A note in the “Summary of Recent Changes” section of the guidelines stated that the CDC “Added language on the importance of offering in-person learning, regardless of whether all of the prevention strategies can be implemented at the school.” The first bullet point in the “Key Takeaways” section reads, “Students benefit from in-person learning, and safely returning to in-person instruction in the fall 2021 is a priority.”
Alleging “blatant anti-Semitism,” a parents group is demanding an apology after a regional chapter of the Los Angeles public school teachers union called for the United States to cease all aid to Israel.
The June 1 letter from the parents’ group, California Students United, also asks for an immediate investigation into potential civil rights violations related to racial profiling, saying union leaders have “no business singling out one country and its people, especially a people who have been victims of discrimination, persecution, and genocide for generations.”
“The position of the union you lead has thrown gasoline on the fire of what was already a volatile, unsafe, and increasingly frightening environment for Jews,” according to the letter.

As far-left Democrats continue to disagree with Republicans on reopening schools, local school boards are viewed as the next big political battleground.
Schools, as Axios reports, have usually been a very nonpartisan, middle-of-the-road institution. Recently, especially since the start of the Chinese coronavirus, they have been in the center of the political landscape. Far-left Democrats and Republicans have been in a battle debating the reopening of schools and sending children back.
Now parents are looking to make the changes needed themselves and contemplating running for office. Especially after most parents have been the teacher while there is no choice but to have distance learning.
