LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Despite a recent sharp decline in demand for COVID-19 vaccines, Los Angeles County plans to continue operating its large-scale vaccination sites while also stepping up outreach efforts in communities where the inoculations have lagged, the county s public health director said.
While health officials in Orange County announced Thursday they will be closing mass-vaccination facilities due to dropping demand, Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said L.A. sites will remain open though they have been slightly downsized to “occupy a smaller footprint.”
Ferrer said the county does not want to prematurely close the large- scale sites without ensuring the communities in which they re located will still have easy access to vaccinations. LOS ANGELES, CA Los Angeles County returned to a semblance of normal Thursday with indoor dining and bars that are allowed to air games, outdoor concerts and increased capacity at most businesses and sporting events.

To date, Public Health has reported 1,233,985 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County and a total of 23,914 deaths.
“We extend our love and prayers to everyone who has lost loved ones during this tragedy and are hopeful that deaths continue to remain very low in the weeks ahead,” said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, Director of Public Health.
There are 390 people with COVID-19 currently hospitalized and 23% of these people are in the ICU. This is the first time hospitalizations dropped below 400 since the beginning of the pandemic.
