A missing hiker has been found safe after a good Samaritan identified a specific part of Angeles National Forest from a photo.
Rene Compean, 45, was hiking near Mount Waterman, in the San Gabriel Mountains in southern California Monday before he vanished, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office.

The next morning, Compean’s friend sent a photo to police that the hiker had sent to him before going missing, showing Compean’s bare legs dangling off a cliff.

After over two decades of speculation, investigation and heartbreak, two suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the 1996 disappearance and murder of Cal Poly student Kristin Smart.
Paul Flores, once Smart s classmate, has long been the only suspect in the case. According to jail records, he was arrested Tuesday in San Pedro and charged with murder. His father Ruben Flores, 80, was arrested at his residence in Arroyo Grande and has been charged with accessory to a felony. His bond was set at $250,000, while Paul Flores is being held without bail.
