Los Angeles Public Health Department Urges Film Industry To Consider Pausing Production
Officials with the Los Angeles Department of Public Health (LADPH) has urged the county’s film industry to exercise caution and “consider pausing production” due to surges in COVID-19 cases.
According to FilmLA, a nonprofit that handles film permits for the county, the LADPH contacted the county’s film industry contacts by email to remind filmmakers of the increasing number of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths as well as both existing and new safety guidelines.
While officials have not announced the closure of filming production, it did encourage filmmakers to consider pausing production for the next few weeks, stating that “although music, TV and film productions are allowed to operate, we ask you to strongly consider pausing work for a few weeks during this catastrophic surge in COVID cases.”

“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” has extended its hiatus in compliance with the recommendation from California Governor Gavin Newsom that Hollywood studios put a pause on filming amid the ongoing COVID-19 surge in the state.
Producers informed staff on Thursday that the show will delay its return to production by a week, rather than resuming with new episodes on Monday as originally planned. Employees will be paid and will continue to work from home.
145 Costco employees test positive for Covid-19 in Washington state

A Covid-19 outbreak has been confirmed at a Costco store in Washington state.
According to a news release from the Yakima Health District, 145 Costco employees have tested positive for Covid-19. Employees who have tested positive have completed their quarantine or isolation period, the release said.
“As Costco continues its site wide testing, we anticipate the number of cases to continue to go up over the next few days as results are received, Melissa Sixberry, director of Disease Control 3 at Yakima Health, said in the release.

LOS ANGELES - A mutant variant of the coronavirus that appears to be more contagious has been found in Southern California, where the state’s most populous county recorded more than 10,000 deaths and authorities warned they will be patrolling streets to shut down large New Year’s Eve gatherings that could spread the infection.
Los Angeles County reached a terrible milestone with 274 additional deaths in 24 hours for a record toll of 10,056 deaths, Los Angeles County Health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer announced Wednesday.
