Water Conservation in Action with New Las Cruces Utilities NO-DES Truck

By cassie mcclure for lcu • 6 hours ago   With the help of the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) WaterSMART (Sustain and Manage America s Resources for Tomorrow) project, the City of Las Cruces (City) was awarded a grant for 50 percent of the cost for one of its newest additions: the NO-DES truck. The NO-DES (Neutral Output Discharge Elimination System) truck and 20-foot trailer, which totaled $524,907.00, allows Las Cruces Utilities (LCU) to do much less hydrant flushing, which cuts down on service interruptions to customers and is a more sustainable way to solve water quality issues while conserving water.

Las Cruces Disputes Penalty and Natural Gas Price Hike from February Winter Storm

By city of las cruces • 19 hours ago   Las Cruces Utilities (LCU) announced today it is challenging a penalty levied by its natural gas transportation provider and contesting the suppliers’ market price hike due to the mid-February winter storm that struck most of North America. The unprecedented weather event, now referred to as Winter Storm Uri, caused a combination of heavy snow, strong winds, and bitterly cold temperatures throughout New Mexico. From February 14 - 17, Las Cruces residents experienced extreme cold temperatures resulting in higher-than-normal natural gas usage. At the same time, Uri froze natural gas pipelines and wellheads, dropping production dramatically in the Permian Basin and elsewhere, affecting utility service throughout the region. LCU was continually monitoring the storm and purchased additional natural gas (at a higher price) from its supplier. The resulting supply shortages meant suppliers were unable to meet the additional gas

Las Cruces gas bills to increase for next two to three years to recover from arctic freeze costs

.... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... .... LAS CRUCES – Las Cruces utility customers will begin to pay more for natural gas when they receive their bills this month. The increase, which is planned to span over the next two to three years, comes from the need to recover costs incurred during the “historic arctic freeze” which occurred in the southwest in mid-February. In a news release Tuesday, the city-owned Las Cruces Utilities said while the cold snap disrupted gas supplies across the region, the only effect the storm had on the city’s utilities was an increase in the gas commodity cost. The weather didn’t cause LCU customers to experience the same types of extended power outages which affected Texas residents.
