Johnson and Johnson Vaccine Clinic Scheduled For Wednesday in Merrill

MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — A Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine clinic will be held Wednesday in Merrill. The single-dose shots will be given from 10 AM to 4 PM or while supplies last at the Lincoln County Health Department at 607 N Sales Street. The clinic was originally scheduled to be held at a different location but was moved Tuesday morning. Health officials are also planning another drive-through clinic with the single-shot Johnson and Johnson vaccine on June 15th from 3:30 to 4:30 PM.

Seniors have perhaps been the most impacted by the COVID pandemic in both the number of deaths associated with the virus and isolation. Now that many of them have been vaccinated, they’re slowly coming back out. The Lincoln County Senior Center held a senior advocacy day on Saturday so that area seniors could been with their local representatives. “As part of our senior center of excellence certification we have to do so many advocacy benefits a year,” Lincoln County Senior Center Kathryn Saine said. “One of the advocacy events that we like to do is have our representatives who are in Raleigh and make the funding decisions for our senior centers come to visit. It’s really important that our seniors are able to get in front of them and let their voices be heard.”

According to the most recent COVID County Alert System maintained by the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, Lincoln County has moved from the orange tier to the yellow.  In the most recent press release issued by the Lincoln County Health Department on March 2, there are 140 active cases, 8,585 recovered cases and there have been 77 deaths due to COVID-19. Of these 76 deaths, 34 are related to congregate care facilities. It’s been almost a year since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Lincoln County and the City of Lincolnton issued a press release on March 11, 2020 indicating that officials had met that Tuesday with representatives from Lincoln County Health Department, police, sheriff, fire, EMS, county and charter schools, Atrium Health, local assisted living facilities, doctor’s offices, local businesses and other privately owned health providers to open lines of communication and share information regarding the novel coronavirus
