(Watercolor by Carol Sebold) A church in Camden will be ringing bells at 5:30 p.m., this evening and the Belfast City Council will take up a proclamation item at its meeting tonight, both for a singular purpose: To honor the lives lost to COVID-19. The First Congregational Church, on Elm Street in Camden, will be tolling its bells at 5:30 p.m., in conjunction with a Washington, D.C., ceremony taking place at the same time. President-elect Biden is planning to host a memorial to remember and honor the lives lost to COVID-19 on Tuesday, Jan. 19 the night before he is inaugurated president.

The memorial, scheduled as part of the inauguration President-elect Joseph R. Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala D. Harris, will include a special lighting of some downtown buildings and the ringing of the Kobe Friendship Bell at Seattle Center. The program emphasizes the importance of looking back and remembering the lives we have lost to COVID-19 as we look forward to the hope of a new path and a brighter future, organizers said.
