Darius Zvironas, the head of the Lithuanian Police Forensic Science Center for the past six years, has been appointed as the country s chief customs officer.

On Tuesday, Finance Minister Gintare Skaiste appointed Zvironas, the winner of the selection process for the job, as director-general of the Customs Department and granted him the rank of general of the internal service, the Finance Ministry said.
The new chief customs officer said in the press release that he sees Customs as a state institution that supervises and promotes fair and open international trade and ensures the protection of the financial interests of the European Union and Lithuania in this field .

Another 3 Belarusians to ask Lithuanian law-enforcement to probe regime violence

Another three Belarusians are planning to turn to Lithuanian law-enforcement bodies in the near future, asking them to investigate violence by Belarusian police, a member of the team of Belarus opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya has said.
Two of them are Belarusian citizens and one is a Belarusian-born Lithuanian citizen, according to Alexander Dabravolski. I can confirm that three people are going to apply to Lithuania for protection in the near future, seeking an investigation into their cases, he told BNS on Thursday.
The three individuals, all of whom now live in Vilnius, are currently drawing up their statements on the violence they were subjected to and will submit them to the Lithuanian Criminal Police Bureau. One of them is planning to do so in early February, according to Dabravolski.
