A medical sterilizing company in Howell has been cited for having elevated levels of ethylene oxide gas near its facility.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) issued an air quality violation notice related to public health Thursday to Centurion Medical Products at 301 Catrell Drive in Howell after air sampling around its facility found unsafe levels of ethylene oxide emissions.
A press release states Centurion, owned by Medline Industries, Inc., uses ethylene oxide gas to sterilize equipment used in the healthcare industry. The gas has been determined to be a human carcinogen by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Following a request in January by the EPA to review ethylene oxide information submitted by Centurion, EGLE determined that further investigation was warranted. A new additional drive-thru COVID-19 testing site is being offered in Livingston County.
The Livingston County Health Department and LynxDx announced that the new testing site will be located at the Legacy Center Sports Complex at 9299 Goble Road in Green Oak Township. Similar to the LynxDx site at the 2|42 Community Center, the new site offers contactless saliva testing and is open to all Michigan residents with or without insurance.
The Health Department says COVID-19 cases, including B117 variant cases, continue to rise in the county â which is currently surging across Michigan. Officials say access to COVID-19 testing is an important tool in helping to identify cases and prevent further community spread.
STREATOR – The Livingston County Health Department will host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Woodland School on Saturday. The Moderna vaccine will be administered from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Woodland Community Unit School District. The clinic is only open to Livingston County and residents of neighboring counties due to the limited amount of Saturday appointments. To register, visit the Livingston County Health Department. All second dose appointments will be scheduled in May at Woodland upon attending your first dose.
