WHMI 93 5 Local News : Deadline Monday To Nominate United Way Volunteers Of The Year

January 23, 2021 By Jon King / jking@whmi.com Monday is the final day that the local United Way will accept nominations to recognize volunteers who have made a big difference in the community. Each year the Livingston County United Way looks for people in the community that have given from their heart to help make things happen. Though the pandemic slowed much of the world down, it caused an increased need for volunteer support locally. Now, they are asking that people who know someone or a team that stepped up to make a difference, that they nominate them for one of their Annual Volunteer Awards.

WHMI 93 5 Local News : Livingston County United Way Accepting Applications For FEMA Grant Funding

January 6, 2021 By Mike Kruzman / news@whmi.com The Livingston County United Way has opened up the grant application period for area agencies that assist local residents in-need. The United Way has been awarded $92,960 in federal funds under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. That allocation was made by a National Board that is chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA. The purpose of FEMA funds is to support emergency food and shelter programs. This could include allowable expenses for shelter, rent, mortgage and utility assistance. The funds can also be used to support eviction diversion and transitioning of individuals from homeless shelters into stable housing.

WHMI 93 5 Local News : United Way Launching 21 Day Equity Challenge

January 6, 2021 By Jessica Mathews / news@whmi.com The Livingston County United Way is encouraging community members to sign up for an upcoming 21 Day Equity Challenge. Over the summer, the United Way Worldwide Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Team created a 21 Day Equity Challenge and engaged many of the local United Ways, with more than 1,000 people participating. The leaning model is now being implemented locally. The Livingston County United Way will host the challenge, starting January 18th and ending February 8th, via e-newsletters sent every day to those who sign up to participate. The newsletters will feature a series of articles, videos, and podcasts about equity for 21 consecutive days. Each challenge will be designed to develop someone’s personal equity lens and will take no more than 15 minutes a day, unless a participant chooses to do more.

WHMI 93 5 Local News : Matching Money Monday Raises More Than $360,000

December 10, 2020 By Jessica Mathews / news@whmi.com Officials say a recent annual fundraising event reminded them why they do the work they do and why they love this community. The Livingston County United Way’s 13th annual Matching Money Monday took place December 7th and a record number of sponsors came forward to provide the match for the event. 32 sponsors provided $207,684 to match all of the donations that came in on Monday. Officials said a remarkable 472 people braved the cold or logged in from home to donate $155,895. Although pending a final audit process, a total of $363,579 was raised to help sustain the programs and services that the United Way supports.
