Defendant seeks information about confidential informant cases The Leavenworth Times A man who is facing an attempted murder charge in Leavenworth County is requesting information about investigations involving a confidential informant. The request made on behalf of Daniel W. Owens was discussed Monday during a court hearing. Owens, 45, appeared Monday for his arraignment. Defense attorney Adam Chingren said his client pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempted second-degree murder. The crime is alleged to have occurred Feb. 13, 2019, at a residence in Easton. The victim testified during a June 28, 2019, hearing that he was shot multiple times after Owens allegedly forced his way into the home.

Defendant pleads to burglary, attempted robbery The Leavenworth Times A Leavenworth man recently pleaded guilty to burglary and attempted robbery in connection to an incident at a local pharmacy, according to a prosecution official. Timothy D. Seifert, 76, entered the guilty plea Dec. 4 in Leavenworth County District Court, according to court records. The Leavenworth County Attorney’s Office filed charges against Seifert in April. It was reported that Seifert had entered the Walgreens in Leavenworth and approached the cashier. He reportedly told the cashier he had the gun and told her to give him money, according to County Attorney Todd Thompson.

Attorney trying to arrange for DNA comparison in rape case The Leavenworth Times An attorney for a Leavenworth man who was convicted of rape more than 10 years ago is trying to arrange for his client’s DNA to be compared to a sample that recently was collected from a piece of evidence in the case. Kevin D. Skaggs, 42, was convicted in 2007 in Leavenworth County District Court of three counts of rape, one count of aggravated criminal sodomy, two counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of promoting obscenity to minors. The crimes reportedly occurred in 2004 and 2005 and stemmed from the sexual abuse of a child.
