Etihad Airways operated (21-Apr-2021) its first ecoFlight of 2021, from Abu Dhabi to Rome on 17-Apr-2021. Under the strategic Etihad Greenliner partnership with Boeing and GE, the flight was operated with Boeing787 aircraft which is fully carbon neutral for the entirety of 2021 through the first carbon offset programme in the region.

AXA Deutschland is to become the first corporate client to use a new carbon
offsetting scheme announced by Lufthansa on Wednesday.
The Compensaid Corporate
Program allows corporate clients of the group s airlines to contribute towards their use of sustainable
aviation fuels (SAFs), the sponsorship of certified climate protection projects
or a combination of both.
The carbon offsetting schemes include the promotion of photovoltaic systems, the use of
efficient stoves that require less firewood, or the replacement of diesel
generators with systems that produce electricity from biomass. Companies in the
programme can choose the project that suits them best.
(Austrian Airlines/Biobased Diesel Daily) Austrian Airlines passengers can now additionally select the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for their flight in the booking process. In doing so, they compensate for the CO2 emissions generated on their respective flight. The applied tool is called “Compensaid,” a development of Lufthansa Innovation Hub. It precisely calculates the amount of CO2 emitted and then offers a corresponding offset with SAF. Compared to conventional kerosene, SAF reduces CO2 emissions by up to 80 percent. It can also be fed into regular flight operations without infrastructure adjustments. “The future of climate-neutral flying lies in sustainable fuel,” said Austrian Airlines CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech. “We have been emphasizing this for a long time. During a little-noticed talk late last week, JetBlue’s chief digital and technology officer Eash Sundaram outlined a plan for JetBlue to refashion itself as a tech company and lifestyle brand, too.
“Selling an air ticket is, by far, what airlines focus on, but if we turn ourselves into a travel tech company, we’ll have a lot more products we can offer,” said Eash Sundaram, chief digital and technology officer, when speaking at Software Intelligence Forum 2021.
