Mother of slain child charged with involuntary manslaughter

LIMA A Lima woman whose 4-year-old daughter died last month of abdominal injuries after suffering what investigators say was a severe beating has been indicted on a charge of involuntary manslaughter. Her live-in boyfriend faces charges of murder, involuntary manslaughter and endangering children for allegedly causing the death of My’Laya Dewitt and also for inflicting injuries on the young girl’s brother.
Stayce Riley, 23, Ma’Laya’s mother, was indicted earlier this week by an Allen County grand jury on a first-degree felony charge of involuntary manslaughter and a single count of child endangering, a felony of the third degree. Her bond was set at $200,000.
PORT CLINTON - John Eichner, the Genoa man accused of murdering his wife and burying her body in a friend s backyard, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity on Wednesday.
Eichner, 43, was indicted late last week on 28 felony charges stemming from Amber Eichner s death, including one count of aggravated murder, another count of murder, one count of abuse of a corpse, 11 counts of tampering with evidence, 10 counts of possession of criminal tools, and four counts of money laundering.
Eichner was arrested April 27 and initially charged in the Ottawa County Municipal Court. After being indicted by a grand jury on April 30, his case was moved to Ottawa County Common Pleas Court.

GENOA, Ohio Over two dozen family and friends came together at Veteran s Memorial Park in Genoa to remember the life of Amber Eichner Saturday.
Those who knew her best say she was a great mother and a kind soul. When she was little, she was goofy and weird, Amber s cousin Amanda Kimbrell said.
Her niece, Jersiee Wood, says she s going to miss her aunt, who was always there for the family. Loving, caring, nice, I could go on forever, said Jersiee. I remember a lot of good times, she taught me a lot, Amber s younger brother said. She was full of life and laughter and she loved her children.
GENOA - A Genoa man has been charged with murdering his wife and abandoning the couple s four children in Tennessee.
John Eichner, 43, is accused by police of having murdered his wife, Amber Eichner, who was reported missing on Friday, according to a news release issued Wednesday morning by Ottawa County Prosecutor James VanEerten.
Police said they received a tip from a friend of Eichner that he had asked and been granted permission to bury his deceased dog on the friend s property. Police conducted a search and excavation of the site in south Toledo and located human remains.
The remains are believed to be those of Amber Eichner, but DNA analysis is being conducted to confirm the identity, according to the news release.

GENOA, Ohio (WTVG) - The estranged husband of a Genoa woman who has not been seen in two weeks has been charged with murder after authorities found a body buried in the backyard of a Toledo home.
John Eichner was last seen dropping off the four daughters he shared with Amber Eichner with a family member in Tennessee. He was arrested Tuesday and is currently in the Ottawa County Jail, also facing charges of child endangerment and tampering with evidence.
