Oklahoma man killed in pedestrian crash in Iberville Parish

PLAQUEMINE, La. (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police reported a man was killed in a pedestrian crash on LA 1148 west of LA 1 near Plaquemine in Iberville Parish around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5.
Troopers identified the man as Tyler Schaffer, 22, of Broken Bow, Okla.
They said the investigation up to this point shows Schaffer was walking in a lane of LA 1148 and was hit by a 2006 Honda Accord. They added he was pronounced dead at the scene.
LSP reported blood samples were taken from Schaffer and the driver of the car. The samples were sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
Two people were taken to the hospital, one in serious condition, after getting stabbed during a fight at the Walmart in Zachary on Wednesday, April 28, according to Police Chief David McDavid.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) A trial is scheduled to begin Monday on murder charges for a Louisiana white man accused of killing two Black men and shooting into the home of another Black family.
Jury selection will begin in the trial of 27-year-old Kenneth Gleason in Baton Rouge, with The Advocate reporting possible evidence including repeated references that Gleason made to Adolf Hitler and cleansing.
Monday s trial will be for murder charges in the Sept. 14, 2017, shooting death of Donald Smart. Prosecutors say Gleason shot the 49-year-old Smart in a park near Louisiana State University as Smart was walking to his overnight shift as a restaurant dishwasher.
