The Malta Town Board is considering a zoning amendment that would allow for the construction of 3.5 million square feet of “last-mile” warehouse/distribution space in the Luther Forest Technology Campus very near GlobalFoundries Fab 8. The proposal should be rejected.
In the mid-2000s, in support of the Comprehensive Master Plan, the town of Malta heavily marketed the campus to Intel and others in the semi industry. Ultimately, the state and town were successful in persuading Advanced Micro Devices to locate here. GlobalFoundries succeeded AMD in 2009 and has since invested roughly $15 billion in the Fab 8 facility, creating thousands of well-paying advanced manufacturing jobs and returns that have added over 18,000 induced/indirect jobs throughout the Capital Region, including Malta. GlobalFoundries remains interested in attracting semiconductor manufacturing support facilities and oth

MALTA New York state s congressional delegation is once again urging President Joe Biden to fund the CHIPS Act, a potential $50 billion windfall for the nation s domestic computer chip industry to compete against China.

Stillwater village gets state water line funding; Water main on Lake Road being replaced | The Daily Gazette

STILLWATER – The village of Stillwater will be getting more than $1.2 million in financing from New York state for replacing the aging and corroded water main that brings water into the village.
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo last Thursday announced the award of a $733,418 Water Infrastructure Improvement Act grant and a $488,946 in short-term low-interest financing. The announcement came as the village has the project out for construction bids, with bids due May 12.
Mayor Judy Wood-Shaw said the main being replaced is the one that brings the village’s entire water supply from a tank near the Saratoga Hills mobile home park down Lake Road into the village. The line was installed in the 1930s and is “corroded and calcified,” she said. The village has been working for a couple of years on getting the funding and was aware of the pending announcement.
Scannell warehouse project in Malta faces some opposition | The Daily Gazette

MALTA Plans for a massive warehouse complex at the Luther Forest Technology Campus are facing some opposition, including possibly from the industrial park’s only major tenant, the GlobalFoundries Fab 8 computer chip plant.
The Town Board voted 3-2 on Monday to approve the scope for an environmental impact statement to be done by Scannell Properties of Indianapolis, a national commercial real estate developer whose other projects include the million-square-foot Amazon distribution center in Rensselaer County.
Scannell is proposing up to five major warehouse buildings at the technology campus, with a possible square footage of up to 3.5 million square feet, and a potential for creating 2,500 new jobs.
