The St. Louis Metropolitan Pandemic Task Force reported improving hospitalization numbers in the St. Louis area while seven-day positivity rates in Missouri and Illinois continued to fall Tuesday. ST. LOUIS The leader of the St. Louis Metropolitan Pandemic Task Force said the region is starting to see a rebound in newly confirmed cases as testing numbers return to pre-holiday levels.
Dr. Alex Garza, the incident commander of the task force, said case numbers in nearly every county in the St. Louis area reported more cases in the last seven days when compared to the previous seven days. Dr. Garza said that increase was expected as testing ramped back up, but it will still be a few weeks before they can figure out if the holiday will bring the anticipated spike in cases.

WOOD RIVER Four Madison County deaths were among the 81 COVID-19 related deaths reported Sunday by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).
The IDPH identified the deceased as a man in his 70s, a man in his 80s, a woman in her 90s and a man in his 90s.
The IDPH also reported 4,711 new confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases.
Late Saturday the Madison County Health Department reported four new COVID-19 related deaths a man in his 70s, two men in their 80s and a man in his 90s to bring the county’s virus death toll to 387. No deaths were reported Friday.
