Louisville mom needs mental health evaluation in murder case: Attorney

View Comments LOUISVILLE, Ky.   The Louisvile mother who allegedly shot and killed her 10-year-old son last month before placing his body in the trunk of her car is in need of a mental health evaluation, her attorney argued Tuesday in a court filing. Kaitlyn R. Higgins, 28, was charged last month with murder (domestic violence) and tampering with physical evidence after police said she admitted to trying to cut out the tongue of her son, Kyon Higgins Jr., before shooting him the night of April 20. Higgins, also referred to in court records as Kaitlyn Bartram, has since been indicted on those charges and an additional count of first-degree criminal abuse. She remains held in Louisville Metro Corrections on a $500,000 bond.
