Apr 1, 2021 MILL HALL Collin Jones of Mill Hall, competed for the Flying Dutchmen during the Winter 2020-2021 sports season. Jones, a graduate of Central Mountain High School, is pursuing a bachelor of science in digital communications at Lebanon Valley College. Jones was a member of the men’s basketball team which completed a shortened season in 2021 due to COVID-19. The Dutchmen finished with an 8-3 overall record and reached the MAC Commonwealth Championship Game for the first time since 2017-18. It has added a range of new masters and certificate programs in education, sport performance, supply chain management, leadership and ethics and more, while introducing an undergraduate degree in social justice and civic engagement, among other initiatives. Much of this flurry of activity was planned before the coronavirus pandemic slammed the country, according to multiple faculty and college officials. But the moves reflect the perils of sitting still that have only been highlighted by the rapid upheavals of the past year.

New Lebanon Valley College degrees reflect shifting economy, society

The college opened in August with in-person learning, but a move to online classes was announced before Thanksgiving and lasted through the end of the semester. The college offered a new winter semester entirely online to help students catch up or advance. Since Feb. 15, classes have been mostly in-person, although the option of totally online learning has continued for students who see it as a less risky option. Thirteen percent in the fall and 15 percent in the spring chose the internet-only option, according to Hanrahan. What s new in academics? We ve greatly expanded our graduate studies, Hanrahan said. These include a master of education and also MS programs in sport performance, clinical exercise physiology, applied kinesiology and clinical mental health counseling.
