Lebanon City Council took another step closer to building a new park.
Mayor Sherry Capello will enter an agreement with Lebanon County for certain easements needed for land in the southwest part of the city where the John E. Wengert Memorial Park is to be developed, the council decided.
The city needs to submit the easement agreements to the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
The property is located on the north side of Chestnut Street across from the Treyco Manufacturing plant and the former Lebanon Catholic School.
The narrow piece of land is bounded on the north by the Quittapahilla Creek channel, constructed by the Lebanon County Redevelopment Authority in the 1970s, and is about two and a half blocks long. It is located 15.8 miles from the start of the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail, at the border of Lebanon and Lancaster Counties, and will have the rail trail pass through it.
