Despite inmates and staff at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds continuing to test positive for the COVID-19 virus, a health official is reporting that the situation there is stabilising.
In addition, inmates whose time of imprisonment has ended should soon be set free.
Dr Carl Ward, who is working on the coronavirus outbreak at the prison as public health liaison officer, said yesterday that the worst had passed.
Conditions at prison stable; virtual visits still suspended

The condition at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds is stable, following a COVID-19 outbreak over the last 15 days.
But, it will still be some time before the St Philip penal institution is able to facilitate virtual visits between inmates and their relatives.
Superintendent of Prisons, Lieutenant Colonel John Nurse, gave this assessment, while Minister of Home Affairs, Information and Public Affairs, Wilfred Abrahams, gave the assurance that contact between inmates and their loved ones would resume as soon as possible.
They were speaking during a press conference at the St Philip penal institution last evening to update the country about the situation at the prison, and reassure families of those incarcerated.

Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds and instead saluted the on-the-job officers.
He commended the men and women in the midst of swirling reports about morale being low, threats of lawsuits and claims of prisoners on edge.
He said the mere fact that 70 of the officers who were in quarantine responded to the call of duty under the circumstances of an outbreak at the prison was testimony to the morale at the prison.
