Drive-through food giveaway provides holiday dinner for 500 families in Elgin

More than 350 cars lined up for the Uniting for the Holidays drive-through holiday dinner giveaway Tuesday at the Elgin Sports Complex. Holiday dinners and other necessities were distributed to 500 families in need on a first-come, first-served basis. The first car there arrived at noon for the giveaway which was supposed to start at 4 p.m., but got underway about 45 minutes late

Five hundred Elgin-area families will receive dinner for the holidays thanks to the United Way. Uniting for the Holidays is billed as a festive drive-through event where dinners and other necessities are being distributed to people in need on a first-come, first-served basis.
The event will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at the Elgin Sports Complex, 709 Sports Way.
Where to get a free COVID-19 test in northern Illinois
DeKALB – The Illinois Department of Public Health is offering free COVID-19 testing at various locations throughout northern Illinois.
Regardless of symptoms or immigration status, anyone can be tested. It is suggested to bring an insurance card; however, it is not required. A nasal swab will be used to collect specimens. Walk-up and drive through testing will be available at most locations:
