Authorities in coastal Georgia say they are still investigating the death of a Houma man whose remains were identified last week.
Forensic testing identified the remains as belonging to 34-year-old Leroy Peter Hargrave Jr., who was reporting missing in 2017. His body was found 2018 near Old Fort Jackson, downriver from downtown Savannah, authorities said.
However, the cause of death remains unknown, said Chatham County Police spokeswoman Betsy Nolen.
“He was reported missing in May 2017 and his body was found in July 2018,” Nolen said in a telephone interview. “The remains then went to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. They had to undergo extensive forensic testing, and that process takes time.
