Lakeland union condemns city officials for not offering ARP funds to essential workers

LAKELAND – A Lakeland union is condemning city officials decision not to offer any hazard pay or bonuses to essential workers out of the federal money it received from the American Rescue Plan Act.  Ed Chambers, president of United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1625, represents more than 7,500 workers, including Lakeland Regional Health s registered nurses, staff and employees of several Polk County nursing homes. Chambers said his request for retroactive premium pay or bonuses for these frontline workers was ignored by city commissioners. City officials should recognize the people who are the backbone of this community, he said. I haven t found anyone who disagrees with me.
