Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital Emerald Coast is one of 27 Florida hospitals that soon will begin issuing COVID-19 vaccinations to people under 65 who are considered extremely vulnerable if infected with the coronavirus. According to information provided by Mike Burke, spokesman for Ascension Sacred Heart, the Florida Department of Health is doling out 28,500 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for the initiative. Along with Ascension Sacred Heart s location in Panama City, its hospitals in Pensacola and Miramar Beach also will receive a shipment of shots earmarked for high-risk patients. Ascension Sacred Heart has received 3,000 doses with plans to administer 1,000 in Milton on Wednesday, 1,000 in Destin and South Walton over two days this week and 1,000 in Panama City on Friday, Burke wrote in an email Monday.

Florida hospitals to receive COVID vaccine for extremely vulnerable Jeffrey Schweers The state Department of Health is shifting 28,500 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to 27 hospitals around the state this week to immunize people under 65 who are considered extremely vulnerable if infected with the coronavirus. The decision came Friday in response to a pressure campaign of emails, calls & interviews from constituents under 65 who have underlying medical conditions that put them at a higher risk than healthy seniors, State Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith, D-Orlando, tweeted on Saturday.  It’s a sign that our advocacy efforts are working. The DOH was able to allocate more resources to hospitals because of a 16% increase in shipments to the states ordered by President Biden, resulting in 307,000 first doses to Florida instead of the usual 266,000. The state also received 254,000 second doses.

Polk launches new COVID-19 vaccine hotline for Friday s signups

Florida Department of Health in Polk County will launch a new COVID-19 vaccine hotline on Friday morning for its second round of appointment signups for senior citizens. Nicole Riley, the health department spokeswoman, said the county s hotline at 863-298-7500 with go live at 8 a.m. Friday for individuals age 65 and older who want to receive the vaccine. There will be approximately 400 appointments available for Wednesday. Riley said the hotline will be staffed Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. by a combination of Department of Health and Polk County employees in an effort to better handle the volume of anticipated calls.

According to deputies, a family called 911 on Tuesday night after three men entered a home where they were renting a room on Old Harden Blvd., pointed a gun at them, and demanded that they leave. Deputies say the suspects escorted the family outside at gunpoint and told them they could find their belongings in the yard later.
