Sun n Fun returns to the skies over Lakeland after last year s cancellation

LAKELAND, Fla. - After being canceled last year because of COVID-19, the Sun n Fun Aerospace Expo is being reborn. The fly-in returns next week at Lakeland Linder International Airport. I think it is super, offered Dave Smith, a volunteer from Orlando who is already camping on the grounds. It is just a great place to be this time of year. We were disappointed but we were prepared because we knew how serious it could be, said Smith’s wife, Pat.
The event being called off put Sun n Fun in a precarious situation financially. Eighty percent of its budget comes from that one event. The money pays for teens to learn to fly and prepares them for careers in aviation and aerospace.
LAKELAND There s been a change in direction at Lakeland Linder International Airport that hopefully will have residents counting more sheep at night rather than low-flying jets.
Gene Conrad, the airport s director, told city commissioners the airport kicked off a new preferential runway use program for its main runway 927 on Friday morning. We are trying our best, as we want to mitigate noise as much as possible, he said. Unfortunately, some people will always been impacted.
The program aims to change the direction of planes approaching and taking off over Lakeland between the overnight hours of 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., Conrad said.

Fearing COVID-19 surge, Florida officials crack down on spring breakers

Florida gas prices highest since summer 2019
Gasoline prices continue to grow more expensive as February proved to be the priciest month at Florida pumps since July 2019. Florida gas prices over the month climbed an average of 24 cents per gallon, with the average at $2.61 according to a AAA report. Since Jan. 1, the state average has increased by 41 cents. DAVENPORT, Fla. â CVS is now on the list of pharmacies offering the COVID-19 vaccine in Polk County, yet some residents say they still havenât been able to get vaccinated.
CVS Pharmacy began administering vaccines in Florida this week, including two Polk County locations. Those pharmacies are fully booked and so are others.
âIâve tried Publix and they give you a thing, oh well weâre overbooked, â said Nilsa Capifali.
Capifali, 69, and her 88-year-old mother say theyâve been trying for two months to get vaccinated.
