Pilot Killed in Draken Mirage F1 Crash Near Nellis AFB
Private Contract Threat Simulation Mirage F1 Aircraft Went Down After Take Off Outside Base.
A Mirage F1 aircraft owned by Draken International crashed just outside Nellis Air Force Base, near Las Vegas, Nevada. One person, the pilot, is reported dead in the accident. A report published on TheHill.com says the aircraft, “crashed after taking off from Las Vegas’s Nellis Air Force Base on Monday, killing the pilot.” The accident took place at approximately 14:30 LT on Monday, May 24, 2021.
Draken released a statement following the accident that said, “Draken has received news of a downed aircraft out of Nellis AFB and the tragic loss of one of our pilots. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people and families affected by this event”.
Amazon opened its 285,000-square-foot cargo facility in the northwest corner of Lakeland Linder in July 2020. Now, the company is seeking to expand on 63 acres adjacent to its current facility under terms offered in its original May 2019 contract with the City of Lakeland.
Amazon proposes to build an additional 464,000-square-foot facility, nearly twice the size. Other proposed features would include a new fuel farm to store up to 24,000 gallon of gasoline and 72,000 gallons of jet fuel, additional employee parking with truck bays for ups to 350 vehicles.
Amazon did not respond to requests from The Ledger to provide further details about the proposed plans.
Single-engine plane crash in Lakeland, two occupants on board with injuries

LAKELAND, Fla. - Lakeland Police and Lakeland Fire Department are on the scene of a plane crash in Lakeland near the Lakeland Linder International Airport.
Shortly before 2:30 pm on Saturday, at 4150 South Pipkin Road, a single-engine plane with two adult occupants crashed in the industrial park area. The area is located just off the airport property.
Both of the occupants were airlifted with serious injuries. Fortunately, no one on the ground was injured.
Both the FAA and NTSB have been notified and will oversee the crash investigation.
Both veterans flew combat missions over the beaches of Normandy during the D-Day invasion, June 6, 1944.
At Sun ‘n Fun, Hallett of Leesburg and Jenner, who lives in Orlando, shared some of their memories of their missions and service. Hallett was the featured guest on the satellite broadcast system television show “Florida Aviation Network,” recorded at the Sun ‘n Fun studio that promotes aviation and aviation history.
Prior to airing, Jenner said that during the war, he was a gunner on A-20 and B-17 bombers serving with the 452nd Operations Group. He said he ended up on the B-17 “Flying Fortress” after no more A-20s were available.
