GUWAHATI: A SpiceJet freighter from Pune via Kolkata delivered 2,40,000 doses of Covishield vaccines for Assam and Meghalaya at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport in Guwahati at around 5pm.
Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “We are starting the involution exercise for doctors and nurses from January 16 morning at 74 designated locations across the state.” The state health department aims to vaccinate 7,400 beneficiaries on day one, with 100 in each of the 74 locations.
“Phase-wise every citizen of Assam will receive the vaccine and for free,” minister of state of health Pijush Hazarika said.
The Airports Authority of India, North East Region in a statement said, “A SpiceJet freighter ferried over 730 Kg of cargo in 20 boxes having vaccine doses to be distributed for Assam and Meghalaya. New Delhi, Jan 12: Ahead of nationwide mega vaccine rollout from January 16, India s first consignment of Covid vaccine Covidshield was transported from Pune to 13 locations across the country on Tuesday.

The first 100 million doses of the vaccine has been provided to the government at the cost of Rs 200 per dose.
On January 3, Covishield, along with Bharat Biotech s Covaxin, were approved for restricted emergency use by the Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI).
