A 118,700-square-foot production and processing plant could be built at a 34-acre parcel owned by Emergent west of DeWitt Road and south of Port Lansing Road, according to a site plan submitted to the township. Disaster-resistant startup to receive free rent, free services through competition One disaster-resistant  startup business will receive a rent-free year in 3,000 square feet of space in downtown Lansing along with free services like insurance, legal help and IT support by winning a competition. The Lansing Built to Last competition is aimed at businesses two years old or younger that will contribute to the economic development of the downtown Lansing area and are able to operate physically downtown during the pandemic and after. Eligible businesses must require physical space to operate and must be able to withstand shutdowns. The program s goal is to spur sustainable entrepreneurship in downtown, officials said.

LEAP awarded $100,000 for high-tech startup program LANSING - The Lansing Economic Area Partnership was awarded $100,000 in Gateway Representative program funds this week aimed at supporting area high-tech startups. The funds, awarded by the Michigan Economic Development Corp., allow LEAP to have Joe Carr on staff as a high-tech entrepreneur who will help guide and advise local startups and to help them access other state resources such as the Business Accelerator Fund, which can award tech startups up to $50,000 for certain needs. Carr is also LEAP s vice president of entrepreneurship and innovation. LEAP s Tech Startup Gateway Program is framed around regional management of BAF support, managing the Lansing Regional SmartZone (which connects startups from around the region) and close relationships with Michigan State University Foundation s Red Cedar Ventures, Spartan Innovations and the Regional Innovation Network Group, LEAP said in a release.
