Blaze northwest of Lompoc; 35+ acres burned
Santa Barbara County firefighters are battling a brush fire on the Central Coast. What’s being called the Santa Lucia fire is burning near Highway 1 northwest of Lompoc. It’s in the vicinity of the Lompoc Federal Prison complex.
Light wind is pushing the blaze through some open spaces on the west side of Highway 1, prompting some evacuations near South Constellation Road. More than 35 acres of land has burned, with 0% containment.
There’s no word of any structures being destroyed or damaged, but there’s a thick plume of smoke visible. Firefighters are using helicopters and air tankers on the blaze, which was reported just after 1:30 Friday afternoon.
