Lompoc Aquatic Center to Offer Free Swim Instructor Training

Housing and Development Newsletter Those who complete the training will be able to apply for a position as a swim instructor at the Lompoc Aquatic Center, 207 W. College Ave. Training prerequisites: Candidates must be at least 16 years old, and be able to demonstrate proficiently the following strokes: front crawl (freestyle), back crawl (backstroke), and breaststroke. Candidates must be able to demonstrate floating on the back and treading water for one minute. Training dates and times: Saturday, May 22, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Choose one of the following dates for shadowing swim classes: Monday, May 24 or Tuesday, May 25, 3-6 p.m.

Housing and Development Newsletter The comprehensive and intensive lifeguard training course includes accident prevention, lifeguarding techniques, emergency systems, water-rescue skills, Basic Life Support (CPR/AED) training, and first aid. Training will take place at the Lompoc Aquatic Center, 207 West College Ave. A pre-course will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m., Friday, May 21. Instruction times are 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, May 22-23, and June 5-6. Pre-registration is required, and can be done by calling the Lompoc Recreation Division, 805-875-8100, or registration online at https://apm.activecommunities.com/lompocrecreation. Deadline to register is Monday, May 17. Since the class is presented in a blended learning format, a valid email address is required at registration. Participants will receive an email with information on how to access the online component upon registration.

(Janene Scully / Noozhawk photo) By Janene Scully, Noozhawk North County Editor | @JaneneScully e April 17, 2021 | 8:12 p.m. Left without regular avenues for selling because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Jessica Preston welcomed the arrival of the new Lompoc Open Market on Saturday. “I’m actually doing really good,” she said Saturday, adding that she wasn’t sure beforehand how many sales she would have at the inaugural event.  Through Very Vintage Art by Jessica, she normally sold handmade items crafted from wood, metal, tile and handpainted glass, but she recently added soaps and bath bombs.
