ISDH: 5,429 new COVID-19 cases; 39 more deaths

Jan 2, 2021 / 11:53 AM EST INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) The Indiana State Department of Health has issued new COVID-19 information for our state. ISDH says 5,429 more Hoosiers have tested positive for COVID-19. Those tests were recorded between Nov. 23 and Jan. 1. A total of 523,090 Hoosiers have tested positive for COVID-19. ISDH says 39 more Hoosiers have died from COVID-19. The deaths occurred between Dec. 21 and Jan. 1. A total of 8,055 Hoosiers have died from COVID-19. Another 355 “probable” deaths have occurred, but a positive test is not on record. The 7-day positivity rate for unique individuals stands at 24.8%. The 7-day positivity rate for all tests is 14.5%. There are currently 2,655 Hoosiers hospitalized with COVID-19.

Bars and restaurants in Indianapolis, Fishers and some other locales have been ordered to be closed or closing when the clock strikes midnight Thursday because of COVID-19 restrictions.  In Marion County, bars and restaurants will remain under a health order, first issued in November, and be closed from midnight Dec. 31 to 5 a.m. Jan. 1. In Fishers, its health department ordered all restaurants and bars to close by 10 p.m. Fishers’ order closed to customers between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. with only carryout allowed began at 10 p.m. Dec. 25 and will end at 5 a.m. Jan. 8.
