Eric Holcomb on Thursday unveiled his Fighting the coronavirus pandemic is what Holcomb said is the biggest issues he wants to address. “Managing through the surge and safely accelerating out of this pandemic will remain priority No. 1,” Holcomb said. “Our response and recovery efforts are all geared toward protecting lives and livelihoods.” To keep that momentum, Holcomb wants to start a comprehensive assessment of state-delivered public health services and local health departments. “This is just an honest assessment that ‘Hey, what are we learning through this crisis? What happens in the future? Because we don’t know and we want to be prepared for that. ISHD says 6,458 more Hoosiers have tested positive for COVID-19. The new tests were recorded between Nov. 28 and Dec. 16. Of the new tests, 6,428 were recorded on Wednesday. A total of 447,190 Hoosiers have tested positive for COVID-19. ISDH says 79 more Hoosiers have died from COVID-19. The newly-recorded deaths occurred between Nov. 8 and Dec. 16. ISDH says 19 of the deaths occurred Wednesday. A total of 6,860 Hoosiers have died from COVID-19. Another 320 “probable” deaths have occurred, but a positive test is not on record. The 7-day positive rate for unique individuals stands at 24.5%. The 7-day positivity rate for all individuals is 12.4%.

FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn said in a statement that regulators have communicated their plans to drugmaker Moderna, which co-developed the vaccine with the National Institutes of Health. The announcement came after a panel of FDA advisers, in a 20-0 vote, ruled that the benefits of the vaccine outweighed the risks for those 18 years old and up.
