Cases spike at Austintown nursing home | News, Sports, Jobs

YOUNGSTOWN The Austinwoods Rehab Health Care nursing home on Kirk Road in Austintown saw a spike in COVID-19 cases this week with 12 cases. It has the seventh-highest number of cases among nursing homes in the state, according to the Ohio Department of Health. Generally, the number of cases among Ohio nursing homes has been dropping in recent months, especially after most nursing home residents received COVID-19 vaccinations. But Austinwoods appears to be among a handful of facilities in Ohio with a high number of new cases, especially among patients. Austinwoods had nine patient cases and three staff cases this week. No other Mahoning Valley nursing home or assisted living facility has had more than three combined patient and staff cases in the past two months.

erunyan@tribtoday.com YOUNGSTOWN The number of COVID-19 cases at Mahoning Valley nursing homes and assisted-living facilities rose by seven this week. The number rose from 29 to to 31 in Mahoning County, rose from none to six in Trumbull County, but dropped by one from three to two in Columbiana County. One Trumbull County facility Warren Nursing and Rehab nursing home on North Road now has three staff cases, according to the Ohio Department of Health. O’Brien Memorial Healthcare nursing home in Masury now has one staff case and one patient case, and Liberty Arms assisted living has two staff cases.
