Not to make you feel old, but if your child was born in 2017 – not that long ago, really – you can register them for junior kindergarten in the fall.
This year, the Northeastern Catholic District School Board is taking online registrations only, for all of its elementary schools – including Pope Francis in Timmins and St. Joseph in South Porcupine.
Superintendent of education Daphne Brumwell says it lasts right through February.
“Schools are also taking some opportunity to put together little videos or virtual open houses so that families can still see what the school looks like and what programs the schools have to offer,” Brumwell outlines.

The president of the English Catholic teachers union from Moosonee to Timmins and Cobalt says work-to-rule tactics won’t directly affect students.
Louis Clausi says his group and the Northeastern Catholic District School Board have yet to work out the local portion of the provincial contract settled that year.
What he calls “strike sanctions” will take effect on Monday.

“The teachers are teaching each day, so we can put that to rest, and there’s supervision each day, so there’s no safety issues, there’s no instructional issues,” Clausi outlines. “Most of the strike sanctions won’t impact on parents and students. They won’t even notice.”
