Crash near Lancaster on Highway 202 injures two

The Highway Patrol reports two women sustained moderate injuries when a sports utility vehicle pulled into the path of a car one-quarter of a mile west of Lancaster Friday evening, December 11
th.
The driver of the car, 32-year-old Whittney Sires of Bloomfield, Iowa, and SUV driver 74-year-old Kay Schmitzer of Glenwood were transported by ambulance to the Northeast Regional Medical Center of Kirksville.
The SUV traveled west on Highway 202 before it reportedly failed to yield to the car, which was traveling south on Highway 63. The car then struck the SUV.
Both vehicles were totaled and both drivers wore seat belts.
COVID-19 cases picking back up in Adair County with 29 reported Monday

Twenty-nine new cases of COVID-19 were reported Monday by the Adair County Health Department.
Those cases bring the county to 1,355 total cases, with 133 active. Ten of Monday’s cases are in the skilled nursing sector, and one is in K-12. Seventeen of the cases are located between four addresses with at least one other confirmed case.
A 72-year-old male who was admitted to Northeast Regional Medical Center on Nov. 26 was placed on a ventilator on Dec. 5. A 62-year-old male was also admitted to NRMC on Dec. 5.
Kirksville schools going back to virtual on Dec. 14

The Kirksville R-III School District is pivoting back to Level 3, which will send instruction back to virtual methods.
This move will take effect beginning Monday, Dec. 14 and last for at least two weeks. According to a release from the school district, all activities scheduled through Dec. 12 will continue. The R-III board will then re-assess the status of those activities during its Dec. 16 meeting.
The district announced its new criteria for pivoting during its most recent meeting on Dec. 3, which has four indicators to measure the status of COVID-19 in the community. The indicators of cases for the last seven days and the percent change are both in the red, which pushes the district to Level 3.
Adair County reports single-day high 42 COVID-19 cases, 3rd death

COVID-19 cases hit a sharp incline on Wednesday, as the Adair County Health Department reported a new single-day high of 42 cases and one death.
A release from the health department said a 72-year-old male who was admitted to Northeast Regional Medical Center on Nov. 26 passed away Wednesday. He was placed on a ventilator on Dec. 5. That marks the third Adair County death attributed to COVID-19.
Wednesday’s cases belong to females ages 7, 14, 19, 23, 34, 36, 44, 47, 51, 53, 55, 58, two age 59, two age 61, 62, 64, 66, 67, 68, 70 and 73. Males are ages 3, 12, 14, 24, 25, 34, two age 36, 41, 45, 55, 59, 60, 62, 67, 68, 71, 77 and 78. Five of Wednesday’s cases are in the K-12 schools sector and one is in the higher education sector, and 21 are in households with at least one other confirmed case.
