The Revolutionary F 100 Concept: How Mercedes Predicted the Future 30 Years Ago 15 Jan 2021, 8:57 UTC ·
by
Presented to the public in January 1991 at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, this visionary research vehicle blew the minds of people with its futuristic equipment.
Mercedes engineers and designers incorporated more pioneering technology into the F 100 than in any other concept before it, showcasing their vision for the future of passenger cars, while focusing on practical applications.
The car boasts many details that promised to transform both safety and convenience. Using the knowledge available at the time, the team responsible for development showed foresight in terms of how future safety features would influence vehicle technology and automotive design.
The North American International Auto Show has been cancelled for the second year in a row, but it’s not all bad news as the event is being reborn as Motor Bella for 2021.
It’s set to take place at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan this September. Given the continuing pandemic, Motor Bella will be an outdoor event that is smaller in scale than the North American International Auto Show and only open to the public from September 23-26.
The change isn’t sitting well with Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, who is apparently afraid the Motor City could lose the North American International Auto Show to Pontiac. According to The Detroit News, Duggan reached out to officials at the Big Three and sought commitments to hosting the event in Detroit moving forward.

Porsche has a major anniversary milestone this year, and as the name of this new special series readily suggests, it s all about celebrating 25 years since the original Boxster came to life. The roadster family, of course, is getting a collector’s limited edition called the Boxster 25 Years. 10 photos
To ensure proper exclusivity, the Boxster 25 Years will be limited to a mere 1,250 units; all will be globally sold and are derived from the GTS 4.0 version, equipped with the company’s 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine churning out 394 hp ( 400 PS).
The company is making a double call back, though – both towards the original 1996 Boxster and the 1993 Boxster concept car that put everything in place for the future success story of the open-top two-seater. This is why the brand is releasing the first details about the Boxster 25 Years in January, as the prototype made its debut at the 1993 Detroit Motor Show.
