Like all Sudburians, I was shocked at the breadth and depth of the announced cuts this week. I have spoken to students, faculty and staff about these cuts, and their devastating effects on the wider community.
They reach directly into the homes of all Northerners, from Mattawa to Marathon to Moosonee. And they will resonate for a long time.

Minister of Colleges and Universities Ross Romano has announced the Northern Ontario School of Medicine is being severed from Laurentian and Lakehead universities.
On Friday, Romano announced school would no longer be able to offer degrees as part of Lakehead or Laurentian University and would instead become a fully autonomous degree-granting institution.
Working with and granting degrees from both Lakehead and Laurentian universities, the school ensured students enrolled at either institution could attain a medical education and receive a degree from an Ontario university.
