Iowa Wesleyan, SCC Alliance Expands Online College Opportunities

February 5, 2021 West Burlington, Ia- For the first time in its history, the Iowa Community College Online Consortium (ICCOC) will add a 4-year university to its membership. Iowa Wesleyan University will become part of the ICCOC as a Tier 4 partner beginning in the summer of 2021. As a Tier 4 partner, Iowa Wesleyan will share the ICCOC LMS, Canvas by Instructure, and many of the additional resources available to all ICCOC partner colleges. Seven Iowa community colleges joined together to form the ICCOC in 1999 as a way to provide online learning opportunities to community college students while reducing overall operational costs. Eastern Iowa Community College, Iowa Lakes Community College, North Iowa Area Community College (Tier 3 Partner), Northwest Iowa Community College, Southeastern Community College, Southwestern Community College and Western Iowa Tech now share educational resources and strive to provide a high-quality online learning experience.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Ed’s life will be held at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 7, 2021. Masks will be required and social distancing guidelines followed. Edward “Ed” Henry Kielsmeier, Jr. was born September 23, 1946 in Charles City, Iowa. He graduated from Charles City High School with the class of 1964. Immediately upon graduation, Ed attended school in Des Moines completing his training as an Operation Room Technician. Ed’s great love for his country propelled him to enlist in the United States Navy serving his country at home and abroad, and then later re-enlisting to serve his fellow enlistees at the Naval Hospital at Los Alamitos, California.

Iowa Central gets $6 4M in virus relief | News, Sports, Jobs

bshea@messengernews.net Iowa Central Community College has received about $6.4 million from the federal government to help it deal with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. At least $1.5 million of that must be passed along to students to assist them with costs they have encountered as the virus affected their education. ”We’re going to have some significant funds available to help and we’re thankful for that,” said Jim Kersten, the college’s vice president of external affairs and government relations.. ”It’s a big boost,” he added. The college received $6,460,442 from the COVID-19 relief measure signed into law by President Donald Trump on Dec. 27.
