The airwaves in eastern and northern Maine will be full of miracles on Thursday, March 11 because of the Townsquare Media’s Cares for Kids Radiothon, a fundraiser to support Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Children’s Services.
Local radio personalities from Bangor and Presque Isle’s Townsquare Media stations will share stories of courage and inspiration from local kids, their families, and Medical Center staff.
Listeners will be invited to donate and show their support for the highly specialized children’s care Eastern Maine Medical Center provides for years to come.

Erratic driver is arrested
ELLSWORTH
A complaint about a car operating poorly on Route 1A in Ellsworth on Friday led to arrest for a Hampden man, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Deputy Dylan Hall arrested Connor Perry, 26, on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant.
Theft
Lt. Corey Bagley is investigating several complaints about a vacation rental business in Blue Hill.
“I am currently investigating several cases from both cottage owners who are owed money from rentals this past fall and renters that have paid for the 2021 season,” Bagley said.
No criminal charges have been filed yet, the lieutenant said. Police are trying to locate the business owner.

SUV crashes into rock wall

ELLSWORTH
Hancock County Sheriff’s deputies charged a Bloomington, Ind., man after investigating a crash on Newbury Neck Road in Surry Saturday.
Ronald Hawkins, 45, was driving south in a 2021 Volvo sport utility vehicle when he came to the end of the public access portion of the road and ran into a large rock wall and metal gate.
“This caused significant damage to the rock wall and gate,” said Deputy Dan Harlan. “There was extensive damage to the vehicle, and it was towed from the scene.”
“After further investigation into the crash, it was determined that Hawkins had been drinking alcohol,” Harlan said.
Jail sued over 2018 inmate suicide death
ELLSWORTH The Hancock County Jail, Sheriff Scott Kane and several members of his corrections staff are being sued in the U.S. District Court of Maine by the husband of a woman who died by suicide in her jail cell in 2018.
Stewart Carney Jr. of Brewer, who is being represented by Hampden attorney Carl McCue, alleges that Monica Johnson’s death was “unlawful.” The American could not reach McCue for comment before press time.
“The decisions made regarding policies for the protection of detainees’ physical safety, and the medical and psychiatric policies by these defendants, directly and adversely affected the decedent’s ability to be safe,” the suit states. “The decedent died as a result of the unlawful actions of the above-named defendants.”
