RALEIGH, N.C. (WECT) - A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper is under investigation following a social media post in which he described the Black Lives Matter movement as a âracist money laundering hate group.â
WRAL reports Master Trooper Mark Melvin posted the comment to Facebook in December. Itâs since been deleted.
On Monday, Melvin was placed on administrative duty while an internal investigation continues.
WRAL also reported that Melvin tagged himself on Facebook as present at the U.S. Capitol siege and posted pictures.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - While many of the counties in the North Carolina foothills and mountains saw snow Friday, residents in the city of Charlotte were lucky if they spotted a few flakes.
Despite a lack of snow, the winter storm system did bring a lot of rain to the Charlotte metro area.
According to WBTV’s First Alert Weather Team, concerns for icy roads will mainly be confined to the mountains and foothills Friday night, but some icy spots will be possible across the Piedmont.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WBTV) - A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper has died after a lengthy battle with COVID-19, officials say.
The N.C. State Highway Patrol says First Sergeant Timothy âLeeâ Howell (A911) died after a âcourageous, lengthyâ battle with COVID-19.
FSG Howell died Thursday at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, and officials say he was supported by his loving family.
