Cumbrians who are eligible to receive their Covid vaccine are being urged to take their health service up on the offer. Residents aged 40-and-up are now eligible to receive the jab, and while many people are waiting to be called by their local GP, the national booking service can also be used to access four vaccination community pharmacies and a vaccination centre, run by the Newcastle Hospitals Trust, as the lead provider for the vaccine programme. These are based at Boots, Carlisle City Centre; Allison s Pharmacy at the Globe Hotel, Cockermouth; Seacliffe Pharmacy, Whitehaven; Pharmacy2u at Dunmail Park, Workington; and Auction Mart Vaccination Centre, Penrith.

An event organiser from Carlisle – who raised more than £18,500 for the NHS during lockdown has handed the cash.
Ian Milburn, who runs IM events, hosted a series of online singing, dancing and bingo events to keep people entertained during lockdown.
People signed up to take part in the events, with many local businesses donating prizes.
Ian donned a range of costumes and wigs and teamed up with his wife Steph to bring the virtual, fun, events to computer screens across the city.

NHS Digital data shows the equivalent of 83,056 full-time staff days were lost due to sickness at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust between March and December 2020. Around a tenth of these (8,566) were because of Covid-19, with staff worst affected towards the beginning of the pandemic. The figures show that millions of days of work were lost nationally. Deputy chairman of the British Medical Association, Dr David Wrigley, said: We know the NHS went into the pandemic woefully short on staff and these worrying figures highlight how Covid-19 has made a severe workforce shortage even more desperate.
