Weld County Sheriff cites high gas prices as gasoline thefts rise Published

WELD COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) The Weld County Sheriff s Office is warning residents about a string of gasoline thefts from private fuel sites.
According to the sheriff s office, they ve received reports of gasoline thefts from private, unsecured fuel sites, mainly on farms and ranches.
The Weld County Sheriff s Office is citing the recent increase in gasoline prices for the rise in thefts.
According to AAA, Colorado has the sixth-highest gas prices in the country, with regular gasoline at $3.51. The national average is roughly $3.16.
The sheriff s office says fuel thieves prey on unsecured fuel sites because they re considered soft targets. These thefts are happening late at night, on the weekends, and during the holidays.
On Thursday (July 8), the Weld County Sheriff s Office (WCSO) arrested a detentions deputy who allegedly had sexual relations with an inmate at the Weld County Jail.
According to a news release from WCSO, Greeley resident Jason Hillyer, 32, is currently in the Weld County Jail facing a Class 5 felony charge of sexual conduct in a correctional institution. Officers have placed him on non-paid administrative leave.
Police became aware of the allegations on June 29, after which Internal Affairs and WCSO s Investigations Unit launched extensive investigations into Hillyer s alleged behavior. Prior to his arrest, he was placed on paid administrative leave.

GREELEY, Colo. â A jail deputy is facing a felony sex crime charge for allegedly having an intimate relationship with at least one inmate at the Weld County Jail, according to the Weld County Sheriff s Office.
Deputies arrested Jason Hillyer, 32, of Greeley, Thursday on one count of sexual conduct in a correctional institution, a Class 5 felony.
The allegation was reported on June 29 to jail staff, and Hillyer was immediately placed on paid administrative leave, the sheriff s office said. Internal Affairs launched an investigation along with the sheriffâs officeâs criminal Investigations Unit.

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. The Adams County Sheriff s Office (ACSO) is investigating Monday night s drive-by shooting as a homicide.
Deputies are looking for a suspect accused of shooting a man in the 7600 block of Pecos Street around 8:30 p.m. That is near the Pecos Street exit off US 36 just east of Westminster in Adams County.
The man was shot in the chest and taken
to the hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries, according to the sheriff s office.
ACSO said they don t have a good description of the suspect or the vehicle they were in, only that they were described as driving a white or silver full-sized truck.
