Camp Roberts could house 5,000 migrant children.
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Biden administration has told Central Coast leaders they may house around five thousand migrant children at Camp Roberts in Northern San Luis Obispo county. That s according to San Luis Obispo County Supervisor Dawn Ortiz-Legg.
The decision is not final, but federal officials have been in communication with San Luis Obispo county leaders this week. I think everything is under review, Ortiz-Legg said. Not from our office, obviously. This is the Federal Government s decision. This is Federal Government property. We just happen to be the host county of a Federal Government facility. That facility is being looked at as possibly a place where they could send up to five thousand children. I think that likely, if it does happen, it will be done in small increments at a time. Anything of this logistical nature takes a lot of planning and execution to be able to do it right.
Northern SLO County sees damage during Wednesday s wind and rain storm

Northern San Luis Obispo was hit hard by the storm Wednesday with some parts of the county seeing damage from the high winds. Fallen trees, disrupted roadways, and scattered debris were also issues.
A telephone pole went down on the corner of 14th Street and Park in Paso Robles, with crews responding Wednesday morning.
Some community members say they have experienced property damage of their own due to strong winds.
Paso Robles resident Wendy Tuttle says the roof of her shed blew off in the middle of the night.
–Coats for Kids of San Luis Obispo County is having a limited-time winter coast drive from January 25 and January 31, 2021. Due to pandemic restrictions, Coats for Kids held a limited coat drive in 2020 and the need is still great.
For one week, Coats for Kids donation boxes will be at five North County businesses. The boxes will be brought outside the front door during business hours and brought in at night to allow for social distancing. Donations of new or gently used coats, sweaters, and sweatshirts will be accepted in all sizes, but the need for kid’s clothes is greatest. Clothes will go to qualified families in North San Luis Obispo County.
Shandon teachers host Winter Drive Through Celebration for students

The Shandon School District hosted a Winter Celebration Drive Through Friday at its local elementary school.
Students received bags from their teachers with crafts, goodies, snacks and inspirational notes.
Pre-ordered holiday lunch boxes can be picked up Dec. 19 through Jan. 4.
Shandon is located in Northern San Luis Obispo County.
Officials say nearly all of its local students came through the drive through.
