City residents are worried over the dengue outbreak at a time when the country is facing the Covid crisis. More than 96.79 per cent of the dengue patients hospitalised in the country this year is in Dhaka. Among 3,182 people hospitalised with dengue since January, 3,080 patients are from Dhaka.

Staff Correspondent Fri Jul 30, 2021 12:00 AM Dengue infections keep rising as 194 more people with dengue fever were hospitalised in the country in 24 hours ending at 8:00am yesterday, the highest in a single day this year.    With them, the number of patients diagnosed with the mosquito-borne disease stood at 2,292, said the Directorate General of Health Services. Of yesterday s figure, 67 were from outside Dhaka. The DGHS data shows that 1,726 people were diagnosed with dengue this month alone, which indicates a fast-rising trend of the disease. Last year, the number of dengue cases was 1,405 and seven people died from the infections. Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam yesterday urged city dwellers to clean their houses and yards to prevent breeding of the Aedes mosquitoes, responsible for dengue and chikungunya.
