(FOX 9) MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - A nine-month-old baby boy was grazed by a bullet while the child riding in a vehicle in north Minneapolis early Friday evening, according to Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder. The incident happened around 6:43 p.m. near 34th Ave N and N Colfax Ave. The child was taken to North Memorial Health Hospital in a private vehicle. The baby s injuries are not serious. Investigators are looking into whether the car the baby was in was the target of the shooting.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter notification and 911 reports of shots fired at N. Colfax and 34th avenues at 6:45 p.m. The infant was taken to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale in the vehicle they were in, according to police spokesman John Elder. The child is expected to be OK, Elder said. No one is in custody. Investigators are working to identify possible suspects and determine if the vehicle was the intended target of the gunfire, Elder said.

Clayton Allen Hovda Major General Retired

Major General Clayton Allen Hovda (Minnesota Army National Guard retired) was born March 5, 1935, in Montevideo, Minnesota, and died on June 19, 2021 at North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale. Clayton grew up on a farm in Maynard, Minnesota. He received his BS from Luther College, his MS from the University of Minnesota, and his PhD from the University of Iowa. He began teaching choral music in St. James and at Duluth Central High School. His career turned to school administration, and he served the communities of Cosmos, Pine Island, Alexandria, Red Wing and Lake City as superintendent of schools, retiring in 1997. Clayton joined the Minnesota Army National Guard in 1957. He served in both the artillery and infantry over his career and was ultimately promoted to Major General, serving as the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division Commander from 1992 until he retired in 1995.
