Food giveaway for those in need planned for May 20 in East Grand Forks

Knudson | 8:50 am, May 14, 2021 × Mark Froemke, president, Northern Valley Labor Council of the North Dakota AFL-CIO (Submitted photo) The Northern Valley Labor Council is planning another food giveaway for the public at noon, Thursday, May 20, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks. At the free food distribution event, a semi-truck will deliver 1,300, 30-pound boxes of food, as well as milk, to the church parking lot. The food, which will be available to anyone, will be distributed via drive-thru pick-up and in a contact-free manner, for public health safety. The driver will be asked how many food boxes and gallons of milk are needed and volunteers will place them in the vehicle.

By Doug Barrett Apr 29, 2021 9:25 AM Labor groups paid tribute to workers who died or suffered illnesses and injuries on the job during a ceremony in Grand Forks last night (Wednesday).  The names of 18 North Dakotans and 80 Minnesota workers were remembered. Every year, on April 28, the nation recognizes Workers Memorial Day. This year special emphasis was placed on every day essential workers who put their lives on the line during the COVID-19 pandemic. The group also plugged the need for stronger worker protections across the country. The event at Bringwatt Park was organized by the Northern Valley Labor Council.

Local labor union to distribute food March 26 for those in need

Volunteers will load boxes into vehicles in no-contact distribution event at Sharon Lutheran Church Written By: Pamela D. Knudson | 7:00 am, Mar. 17, 2021 The Northern Valley Labor Council of the North Dakota AFL-CIO will distribute food baskets March 26 in the parking lot at Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. The event begins at noon and continues until all the food is distributed. About 20 volunteers will hand out the boxes, weighing 30 pounds each, and gallon containers of milk in two lines, said Mark Froemke, president of the Northern Valley Labor Council. The council is sponsoring the event in partnership with the North Dakota AFL-CIO, the St. Paul Federation of Labor and the USDA Farm to Family Program.
