Tamale shop owner arrested with firearms, narcotics

+ The Northern Regional Unit of the Drugs Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service (GPS) has arrested a provisions shop operator at Banvim, a suburb of Tamale, for unlawful possession of narcotic drugs and firearms. The suspect, Hamza Ziblim, aged 30, who has been detained by the police to assist with further investigations, was arrested based on intelligence gathered by the DLEU to the effect that he was dealing in narcotic drugs, including cannabis and tramadol. Exhibits The Northern Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent of Police, Mr Bernard Baba Ananga, who briefed the Daily Graphic on the arrest, said a search conducted by personnel of the DLEU during the arrest of the suspect in his shop revealed three empty AK 47 assault rifle magazines concealed in a yellow polythene bag; one silver and brown-coated pistol, make Blow F2 loaded with two live rounds of ammunition (7.65mm) concealed in a black polythene bag.

Four more people arrested in connection with Yong Dakpeme Yili chieftaincy clash

The four were arrested at a hide-out in the remote part of the Yong Community. According to the Northern Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Bernard Baba Ananga, they have been charged with offences ranging from rioting with guns, possessing firearms without authority, causing damage, the threat of death, and harm. There were renewed chieftaincy clashes in the Yong Community on Friday night resulting in the torching of more than 25 houses, motorbikes, and foodstuffs among other properties. Police have attributed the latest clashes to disagreement over the performance of a funeral in the town. There has been an already existing chieftaincy dispute between two brothers all claiming to be the rightful person to occupy the Yong skin.

Two suspects arrested for trafficking 12 people

The suspects, Kwaku Manu, 45, and Nkabeye Joshua, 24, all natives of Zabzugu were arrested following vigilance on the part of some good Samaritans who saw the victims alighting from a bus together with the suspects at a stopover in Tamale to take dinner before continuing on their journey to Kumasi.
