NORTH PORT – As corporate America evaluates the impact of COVID-19 on future expansion, experts agree North Port and other communities like it are in a sweet spot for growth. That was one of several underlying messages to emerge from the fifth annual North Port Real Estate Summit on Friday.
Ron Starner, executive vice president of Site Selection Magazine, said that the shift to remote work prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic will continue, and companies are looking beyond large metropolitan areas to ones such as the North Port-Sarasota-Bradenton metropolitan statistical area when they seek to expand.
“Instead of people chasing jobs, jobs are now chasing people,” Starner said “It’s better to be North Port now than it is to be New York, LA, all the big cities.”
Katie Worthington, president and CEO of the Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce, said those figures don t surprise her at all. She added that within Winter Haven city limits, the rate of growth has been 4% over about the past five years.
Worthington added that while Florida itself is attractive because of the lack of state income tax, the weather and location, Polk County brings even more to the table. Polk County is centrally located, it is affordable in comparison to the metro markets that directly surround us and the quality of life you can pretty much live any type of life you want in Polk County, Worthington said.
