A new scheme to install medical professionals on the streets of Barrow when the nightlife scene returns faces one final hurdle. North West Medical Service, a Barrow-based service that supplies trained staff to events throughout the North West of England, saw a need for the Night Safe initiative when attending an event at a club in Barrow where they found themselves attending to the injured which stopped the requirement of multiple ambulance call-outs. Reduced strain on the North West Ambulance Service as well as making the streets feel safer is the key to the initiative, but the final hurdle the team now faces is getting the support of nightclubs themselves before they can get the go-ahead – which they are in the process of organising.
