MADISON, WI (WSAU) Another special session, another quick gavel in and out.
According to Scott Bauer of the Associated Press on Twitter, Republican lawmakers in Madison took about 40 seconds to gavel in and out of a special session called by Governor Evers last week. The special session was called to expand Medicaid with $1 billion in federal coronavirus relief funds.
Shortly after the session was gaveled out by Republican lawmakers in a mostly empty chamber, Governor Evers issued a response. In the response, he says, “It’s breathtaking that after a year of working to prevent us from responding to COVID-19, Republicans would rather keep playing politics with our economic recovery than invest $1 billion into our state’s economy and support communities in their own districts.
The Hope House is run by North Central Health Care (NCHC).
The county purchased the property more than a year ago and through a partnership with the city of Antigo and NCHC, women now have a place to go for help with addiction and substance abuse.
The house is run by NCHC staff as well as a live-in mentor who is actively in recovery.
The sober living house offers a strong foundation for those in recovery. Individuals are going out there and seeking treatment they re trying to be true to their individual recovery, but then you come back to your old living house, your old habits, your old connections and a lot of peer pressures. Without those positive supports when you re early in that recovery that can present a lot of challenges, said Toni Kellner, the community living director for NCHC.
